Dave walks length of Greek island for SYC

We may have found our most committed supporter yet! On Friday 29th April, Dave Richardson strapped on a 50lb backpack and set off on a 338.25-mile route over 8000ft peaks, right across the Greek island of Crete.

Dave – who saw us on BBC One’s Countryfile last year then met a family supported by SYC through his work at Sheffield Hallam University – decided to take on a personal challenge to raise money for both SYC and Land of Joy, a Buddhist retreat community.

Completing his walk on 24th May, Dave flew back to the UK shortly after. He has raised an incredible £883.39 for SYC to date, with the total still rising!

Here is just a short extract from Dave’s post-challenge email to us:

“Apart from the last 30 miles I was carrying a 50lb pack, mostly camping and living mostly on bread, rusks, nuts and halva. The scenery and wild flowers were wonderful, the buzzing of bees, the eagles gliding over the high peaks, the tinkling of goat and sheep bells, the smells of thyme and pines will stay in my mind. People were kind, helpful, friendly and generous all over.”

We can’t thank Dave enough for his support (we just hope he invites us along next time!).
