Carers Rights Day 2017

Friday 24th November is Carers Rights Day, the national awareness-raising day organised by Carers UK to promote the rights of carers all over the UK.

This year we’re involved in lots of exciting events to mark the day. From a student carers event with Sheffield Carers Centre, Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield, to two highly emotive performances of ‘Who Cares’, a national theatre tour ‘that shine[s] a light on the untold stories of young carers from Salford’, there’s something for everyone. We’ll also be delivering young carer awareness training to school governors in partnership with Learn Sheffield, and distributing fantastic free resources to schools all over Sheffield, including videos about young carers and assembly and lesson plans.

The highlight of the week, however, will be an invaluable meeting with five of Sheffield’s MPs on Carers Rights Day itself. Taking place in the Lord Mayor’s Parlour in the Town Hall, the meeting will allow some of our city’s incredible young carers to present their concerns and ideas directly to local MPs and urge them to make a real difference by championing young carers’ rights.

Here’s a list of all the events we’re delivering or supporting:
