This Carers Week (6-12 June) we’re joining forces with Sheffield Carers Centre and Sheffield City Trust to encourage more unpaid carers to self-identify, seek support and prioritise their own health and wellbeing – not just that of the people they care for.
Young Carers Action Day is an annual event to raise awareness of young carers and the contribution we make by caring for our family members and friends. It’s also a day to call for more action to support young carers and young adult carers and give us the extra bit of help we need to live full and healthy lives. And we need your help to do it!
This charter is to show our dedication and commitment to giving young people a voice and involving them in decision making across the organisation. We think it is integral to ensuring we offer the best possible support to young people and young carers.
We are so excited and thrilled to share that we have received an award of Excellence for Carers from Carers Trust! All carers organisations are encouraged to apply for the award as a way of marking quality. There are 10 standards with a number of key indicators including signposting, peer support and advocacy which organisations have to meet in order to receive the award. Which we are pleased to say we achieved!
We are so excited to announce that local business Mina have chosen us as their charity of the year for 2022.
The team are ready and raring to go with lots of fundraising ideas for the year. The teams first challenge will see them getting their running shoes out and tying their laces to take on the hills of the Sheffield Half Marathon this March

Sheffield Young Carers (SYC) supports young carers and young people affected by substance misuse in their family and we’re seeking new trustees to support our vital work. This is a very rewarding voluntary role bringing many mutual benefits to both the individual trustee and SYC.
We’re delighted to be launching our brand new education project, Greater Reach, Brighter Futures - a three-year project, funded by the British and Foreign School Society and supported by Learn Sheffield and Sheffield City Council.
And just like that, the summer holidays are over! We aren’t too sad though because we were able to squeeze tons of fun into our five-week programme of holiday activities. From canoeing to climbing, young carers from all over Sheffield put themselves to the test, having lots of fun in the process!
