After talking about how hard school can be for young carers, SYC members decided to raise the profile of young carers in schools in Sheffield, so other young carers out there can get better support.
A group of members aged 13-16 have volunteered to go out and speak in school assemblies so students and staff understand a bit more. They are also working with members of Sheffield UK Youth Parliament to develop a Young Carers ID card that could be given out by schools.
The first assemblies are happening in early November and we hope to take this to all schools in Sheffield...and maybe the world!
If you would like an assembly or workshop about young carers and the issues they face, please get in touch with Laura, SYC's Development Worker.
