Laura also leads 2 of our activity groups for young carers, takes part in excursions and residentials and provides one to one support where this is needed.
Seetal Jassal – Young People’s Worker
Seetal leads all our activity groups for 8-12 year olds and a group for young carers aged 12-21 who want to have more of a say about young carers issues. She also provides one-to-one support for young carers who are new to the project or who need extra support.
Denise Anderson – Administration, Finance and Support Worker
Denise works full time to provide administration support to the SYC staff team, and ensure that the charity finances are properly managed. Denise also encourages new volunteers to support the charity and leads a regular activity group.
Steph Platt – Support Worker
Steph works part time for SYC and leads a regular activity group to support young carers in South Sheffield.
Maryam Mahmud - Family Project Worker
Maryam is employed full-time leading the SYC Family Project. This project is aimed specifically at families where there are mental health issues and/or substance misuse issues at home. The project aims to reduce the amount of caring that a young carer does by supporting the person they care for with issues that affect the whole family e.g. debt, housing, benefits, accessing services. Maryam does this by providing one-to-one support and home visits over a 12 week period.
Helen Mather – Fundraising Officer
Helen works part time for Sheffield Young Carers to raise money so that SYC’s work with young carers and their families is able to continue. This involves applying for grants and also encouraging and supporting the Sheffield community to get involved through organising their own fundraising activities.
Our staff are also supported by a dedicated team of volunteers without whom the support we offer would not be possible.
