Young Carers Granted £4000 to Spread the Word

News

During July, nine SYC project members, all aged between 12-16, got together to write a funding bid to the Youth Opportunity Fund. After being successfully shortlisted, six young people attended Sheffield Town Hall to present why they want the funding in front of a room full of young people and adults.

Gaby, Beckie and Shannon gave a great presentation, cheered on by Daniel, Curtis and Taymar, and they were successfully granted £4000. They will use this set up a participation group to have more of a say about what happens for young carers in Sheffield, as well as to do awareness-raising training about young carers in schools and other settings around the city. This will help people understand how to support young carers better and help young carers who are caring alone to get some help and support.

Well done to everyone involved! And watch this space for updates on the project....
