On 30 April 2016 we bid a very fond farewell to our lovely VOYCE team. Staff members Kath Fitzpatrick, Ruth Lawson and Louise Wright had all worked tirelessly during their time on this four-and-a-half-year, Big Lottery-funded project, in partnership with local youth organisations Chilypep and Interchange.
Sadly we were unable to secure continuation funding for the project – but VOYCE Schools Project will live on through its impressive legacy: over its lifetime, the project identified and supported an incredible 176 young carers within just three families of schools in Sheffield. A number of high-quality resources will also be available on our website shortly, allowing SYC to share the good practice developed by VOYCE, while helping others to emulate their success.
In the meantime, SYC has recently embarked on an exciting new pilot withLearn Sheffield, the not-for-profit schools company which is owned by Sheffield’s schools and colleges, in partnership with Sheffield City Council. Working with six different schools in Sheffield, both primary and secondary, we will be rolling out a package of training and support based on the VOYCE model, to help schools identify and support young carers themselves.
