SYC hit the Peak District!

During the first two weeks of August, SYC ran two residential respite trips for young carers from Sheffield, taking fourteen 8-12 year olds and seventeen 13-17 year olds for a three-day fun-filled break in the Peak District.

The residentials took place at the beautiful Lockerbrook Outdoor Centre, with stunning views overlooking the Derwent Reservoir. During the trips, the groups enjoyed drama-based conflict resolution training, bushcraft activities in the woods, team challenges, art activities, a barbecue/disco... and the very scary and exciting team crate stack challenge, which left everyone swinging in the trees!

Thanks to the Sheffield City Council’s Targeted Youth Fund for funding these programmes – everyone who attended gained some amazing new skills and experiences, made strong new friendships, and visibly grew in confidence as the days went on.

As one young person said, “This has been the best few days of my life!”
