SYC, along with Chilypep and the YMCA's Interchange Project, have been awarded a grant by the Big Lottery Fund's Youth in Focus programme, to improve support for young carers in Sheffield over the next four years.

Chilypep are leading the joint project and the programme will have three strands:

• To ensure young carers' voices are heard and form the basis of the development of services and provision for young carers in Sheffield
• To work with schools to improve support for young carers across the city, particularly during the transition from primary to secondary school
• To provide counselling and therapeutic sessions for young carers across the city, to help them cope with the stresses and pressures of their caring roles
