Is my child or relative a young carer?
Are you... Related to a young carer?
A young carer is someone aged under 21 who cares for a relative who has physical or mental health issues, a disability or problems with drugs or alcohol.
You may have someone a young person in your family who is providing substantial help to a family member by doing household chores (shopping, cooking, cleaning), looking after siblings, providing emotional support, helping with washing or dressing a parent or relative or providing other support. This young person is likely to be a young carer.
For many families, especially single parent families with no relatives nearby and families where one parent works long hours, this seems like the only option to get by.
